SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly outfielder Alex McKenna sports a .360 average two weeks into the 2017 Cape Cod League season with the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox.
McKenna (pictured above), who will be a junior with the Mustangs next spring, is 18-for-50 in 13 games at the plate, No. 8 in the Cape Cod League with his average. He has six doubles, two triples and seven RBI with four stolen bases.
On Saturday, McKenna went 3-for-4 against Brewster with two doubles and a pair of RBI.
Mustang third baseman Bradlee Beesley is hitting .381 for the Yakima Valley Pippins of the West Coast League. Among his 16 hits are four doubles and a pair of home runs. Beesley has knocked in eight runs and has stolen four bases in 10 games.
Beesley, a sophomore at Cal Poly next spring, went 3-for-4 against Kelowna on June 19 and 3-for-5 against Bend on June 29. He also has a trio of two-hit games.
Three future Mustangs are hitting the ball well for the Utah Marshalls.
Cole Cabrera is hitting .348 with 12 RBI, Blake Wagenseller sports a .300 average with 19 RBI and Nick DiCarlo has a .426 average with 18 RBI. Pitcher Zach Chalmers has compiled a 1.33 ERA over 18 innings.
Ogrin has two doubles and four RBI in 11 games, going 3-for-4 with three RBI against Rochester on June 21 and 3-for-5 against Duluth on June 26. Marinconz singled three times and drove in five runs against Rochester on June 24 and has two doubles and 12 RBI in nine games thus far.
Marinconz also played three games for the Santa Barbara Foresters earlier in June and went 2-for-8 with a double and one RBI. He singled and doubled with one RBI against the Academy Barons on June 18.
Catcher Myles Emmerson is hitting .286 in seven games for the San Luis Obispo Blues with three doubles and two RBI while incoming freshman Connor Gurnik sports a .264 average for the Kelowna Falcons in the West Coast League with three doubles, one triple and nine RBI.
Gurnik, an infielder, went 3-for-4 against Yakima Valley on June 19 and also produced three consecutive two-hit games June 22-24.
Pitcher Bobby Ay went 5 2/3 innings for the Blues' win against the Santa Barbara Foresters on June 17, striking out six, and incoming freshman infielder Tate Samuelson also plays for the Blues (.250).
Austin Dondanville made his debut with the Blues on July 1 and allowed one earned run in eight innings with four strikeouts, scattering eight hits in a 4-1 win over the Southern California Catch at Sinsheimer Park.
Connor Redmond is 1-1 with a 3.08 ERA for the Corvallis Knights with nine strikeouts over 11 2/3 innings. He pitched six innings for the win Friday at Gresham, allowing one earned run and striking out five.
Also playing for Corvallis are infielder Jack Kuzma (.143) and pitcher Darren Nelson (0-1, 4.05 ERA).
Incoming freshman Aiden Goicovich is pitching for the Pacific Union Financial Capitalists, who sport a 13-2 record after earning a series win over the Conejo Oaks this weekend.
