Armendariz One of Three Mustangs in Northwoods League This Summer

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Cal Poly outfielder David Armendariz, one of three Mustangs playing summer ball in the Northwoods League, has raised his batting average to .301 for the Green Bay Bullfrogs.
Armendariz (pictured at right) is 44-for-146 with four doubles, two triples, three home runs and 15 RBI. He also has stolen 12 of 15 bases.
Armendariz, a pitcher in high school who has yet to pitch in two seasons at Cal Poly, has appeared on the mound four times for Green Bay this summer. After not allowing a run in his first three stints, Armendariz surrendered five runs in two-thirds of an inning against Battle Creek on July 14 and suffered the loss.
Also playing for Green Bay is catcher Chris Hoo, who is hitting .271 with four doubles and one home run. Going 26-for-96 at the plate so far this summer, Hoo has driven in seven runs.
Mustang third baseman Jimmy Allen is hitting .239 for the Eau Claire Express, going 32-for-134 at the plate with 12 doubles, one triple, one home run and 19 RBI. He is 11th in the Northwoods League in doubles.
Meanwhile, four Mustangs are playing on first-place teams in the West Coast Collegiate Baseball League.
At Corvallis, pitcher Bryan Granger sports a 2-2 record and 1.76 ERA. In five starts, the right-hander has struck out 23 batters and walked only eight over 30 2/3 innings for Corvallis, first in the West Division with a 23-19 record.
At the plate, Alex Michaels sports a .244 average with four doubles and eight RBI while Nick Torres is hitting .204 with eight doubles, one triple and 15 RBI. Torres has stolen four of seven bases.
Wenatchee is first in the East Division with a 27-12 record and Mustang utility player Ryan Drobny is hitting .320 with eight doubles, one triple and 15 RBI, going 31-for-97 at the plate.
Several other Mustangs are playing in the WCCBL.
At Bend, pitcher Michael Dingilian has made six relief appearances on the mound, compiling a 1-1 record and 2.08 ERA with 11 strikeouts in 8 2/3 innings.
Danny Zandona is 0-0 with a 6.75 ERA at Bend, making three relief appearances so far, while at the plate Tommy Pluschkell is hitting .164 (10-for-61) with two doubles and one RBI.
At Kitsap, Jordan Ellis is hitting .240 (12-for-50) with two doubles, a pair of triples and three RBI while pitcher Michael Holback has no record and a 2.25 ERA. He has pitched in six games (two starts) with 14 strikeouts in 20 innings.
Southpaw Matt Imhof is pitching for Walla Walla and is 0-4 with a 6.35 ERA. In five appearances on the mound (four starts), Imhof has struck out 23 batters in 22 2/3 innings.
Pitcher Kyle Brueggemann is pitching for the Asheboro Copperheads in North Carolina and has a 1-0 record and 3.00 ERA with five strikeouts in 15 innings.
Right-hander Chase Johnson, the lone Mustang in the Cape Cod League this summer, sports a 2-1 record and 4.50 ERA for the Orleans Firebirds. He has struck out 18 batters and walked only five in 14 innings over 14 appearances, all in relief. Johnson has one save.
At Waterloo, pitcher Reed Reilly has no record and a 16.20 ERA with five walks and six strikeouts over five innings.
Three Mustangs are on the roster of the Conejo Oaks in the California Collegiate League.
On the mound, Braden Young is 1-2 with a 2.77 ERA, pitching 13 innings in 10 relief appearances with 17 strikeouts and only five walks.
Second baseman Denver Chavez is hitting .355 (22-for-62) with five doubles, two triples, one home run and 13 RBI, stealing 10 of 11 bases, while first baseman Jordan Brower has a .219 average (14-for-64) with three doubles, a home run and nine RBI.
Outfielder Tyler Evanoff is hitting .273 for the Nevada Bighorns in Carson City with four doubles and five RBI.
Matt Russell, an outfielder, is playing for the SoCal Angels in the Central Coast Baseball League.
Shut down for the summer are pitchers Joey Wagman, Taylor Chris and Colton Haynes along with catcher Elliot Stewart, infielders Evan Busby and Michael Hoo and outfielder Tim Wise.
