Cal Poly to Visit Former Big West Rival Pacific for Weekend Series
Defending Big West Conference baseball champion Cal Poly (2-7), which a year ago did not suffer its seventh loss of the season until April 27, will visit Pacific (0-11) for a non-conference three-game series this weekend at Klein Family Field in Stockton.

After collecting the doubles point and taking a 3-0 advantage, the 61st-ranked Cal Poly men’s tennis team outslugged Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday afternoon at Mustang Courts, 4-3. The victory was Cal Poly’s second consecutive and its fifth in the last six matches overall.

Sophomore righthander Sierra Hyland struck out eight Utah hitters during the Cal Poly softball program's opening game Sunday at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, but the Utes tied the matchup late before producing two runs in the ninth to send the Mustangs to a 3-1 defeat. Cal Poly also fell in game No. 2 to UNLV, 3-0, after the Runnin' Rebels scored all of their runs in the first two innings.

After compiling the most dominant pitching season in Cal Poly softball program history, righthander Sierra Hyland was honored on Tuesday afternoon as the Big West Conference Pitcher of the Year and Freshman Pitcher of the Year. Also named to the All-Big West first team, Hyland headlined a list of seven Mustangs who earned 2014 all-conference praise.
