Phil Webb, who served as Cal Poly’s Interim Director of Athletics for four months following the retirement of Alison Cone, has served as Senior Associate Director of Athletics since 2005.
Webb joined the department in 1995 as Assistant Director of
Athletics for Business. His duties include overseeing all business
and finance operations for the department, administering the
scholarship program, supervising nine sports, and overseeing the
events, facilities and equipment room operations.
Webb arrived at Cal Poly from California State University at
Fresno, where he served for seven years with the School of
Agricultural Sciences and Technology’s “California
Agricultural Technology Institute”, the final three years as
the institute’s director.
Prior to his tenure at Fresno State, Webb was employed in private
industry as financial controller and chief financial officer for
various corporations in the Fresno area.
Born in Zimbabwe (then Rhodesia), Webb studied accounting,
economics and law at the University of Zimbabwe while employed
under articles of clerkship with a public accounting firm.
Before immigrating to the United States in 1981, Webb spent four
years in London working in the accounting and computing
professions.
Webb and his wife Karen reside in San Luis Obispo. They have
two children, Jonathan and Sara, both graduates of Cal Poly.
