Mustang sophomore Ryan DesRoches placed third at 79 kilograms (174 pounds) while Ryan Smith, also a sophomore, finished fifth at 96 kilograms (211.5 pounds).

"This was a huge jump for both of them leading into next season," said Cal Poly assistant wrestling coach Mark Perry. "Both wrestling brackets were loaded with NCAA qualifiers and All-Americans."

DesRoches (pictured above) won his first two matches by technical fall and reached the semifinals with a pair of decisions before losing to Austin Meys 3-3, 3-1.

He won his consolation semifinal 3-1, 6-0, then pinned Chase Nelson, 0-6, 0:22, for third place. There were 70 wrestlers in his bracket and DesRoches finished 7-1.
