SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After hitting the game-winning shot to lead the Mustangs to a 57-56 victory over Lamar (finalizing her second 20-point performance in a four-game stretch), point guard Abbey Ellis has been named Mechanics Bank Cal Poly Student-Athlete of the Week.

Ellis, a freshman from Yallambie, Australia, drove for the game-winning layup with 1.6 seconds left on Saturday in Mott Athletics Center, giving the Mustangs the win to close out the 13th annual #ShareSLO Holiday Beach Classic while making the all-tournament team.

She averaged 16.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists between both #ShareSLO games, as she matched her season high for assists (eight) during the 61-55 loss to Old Dominion on Friday.

For the season, Ellis now ranks No. 38 nationally in free-throw percentage (a Big West-leading .900), while also ranking fifth throughout the conference in scoring (averaging 15.4 points per game) and fourth in assists (4.1).

Leading into final exams week (Dec. 9-13), Cal Poly will return to the floor at Saint Mary’s on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff from McKeon Pavilion in Moraga is set for 2 p.m. Dec. 7, broadcast on WCC TV.
