Torrey Van Winden, Sophomore, Outside Hitter, 6-3, Napa, CA | Vintage High School
SAN LUIS OBISPO — For the third time this season, women's volleyball sophomore outside hitter Torrey Van Winden has been named the Coca-Cola Cal Poly Student-Athlete of the Week.
Van Winden (Napa, Calif./Vintage HS) recorded her sixth double-double of the season Saturday at Hawai'i after finishing with a match-high 25 kills, hitting .313 and adding 13 digs and an ace to help lead the Mustangs' five-set comeback victory for the team’s 11th straight win that resulted in being ranked No. 24 in the nation in the latest AVCA National Top 25 rankings. It is the first top-25 ranking for Cal Poly since 2008.
The win against Hawai’i was just the fifth time in program history against the Rainbow Wahine and the first since 2006.
Cal Poly is now 16-2 on the season and 6-0 in the Big West, good for sole possession of first place.
Van Winden currently ranks in the top five in the Big West in hitting percentage (.354), kills per set (4.71), and points per set (5.30).
The Mustangs will look to continue their winning streak Saturday when the team travels down to Santa Barbara to take on UCSB at 5 p.m.
