SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After scoring a team-leading 18 points at the Big West Conference Championship meet, Mustang sophomore Peyton Bilo has been named the Coca-Cola Cal Poly Student-Athlete of the Week.
Bilo won the 5,000-meter title on Saturday, running a time of 16:43.83, hours after finishing in second place in the 1,500m final in 4:31.20 at Cal State Fullerton.
With season-best performances of 15:52.01 (at the Stanford Invitational on March 31) and 4:18.73 (at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 14) for each event, she'll continue her postseason at the West Prelim Round of the NCAA Championships, hosted by Texas from May 25-27.
Top 12 finishers at each of the country's two regionals (as Kentucky will simultaneously host the East) advance to the national championships at Oregon from June 7-10.
Bilo has won the Coca-Cola Cal Poly Student-Athlete of the Week award twice in track this season and six times in cross country in the fall.
